Video game ratings using the Pegi (Pan-European Game Information) system have become legally enforceable in the UK.

Retailers that sell titles with ratings of 12, 16 or 18 years to children below the age limits will be subject to prosecution.

To prepare for the move, the government decided to drop a parallel ratings system run by the BBFC (British Board of Film Classification).

Organisers say it will help families make informed decisions.

In addition to the age ratings, packaging will also feature diagrams warning if the title includes bad language, drugs, discrimination, fear, gambling, sex, violence or online gameplay with other people.

Do any of you think this is age rating is going make a difference in the games underage children play?

Well, if the UK is part of Europe, then that's baloney to prosecute British children for buying these kinds of video games. Now you'll see absolutely ZERO Britons under 18 playing Modern Warfare 3 now.

No. Read the article. RETAILERS WHO SELL to underaged customers will be prosecuted. Besides, there's a multitude of ways to buy age-restricted games without actually buying them yourself. Parents/siblings, buying online with another family member's credit/debit card, gamesharing your account with a friend who owns the title (DDLs only) etc. While this will be more helpful for parents who really don't understand gaming, it won't in any way stop kids playing age-restricted games.
