An ultimatum is a demand whose fulfillment is requested in a specified period of time and which is backed up by a threat to be followed through in case of noncompliance. An ultimatum is generally the final demand in a series of requests.

School does it all the time:

My dad did once when I was younger. He told me to either bring home straight A's on my report card or not come home. Well, I thought I was going to be homeless but I managed to pull all straight A's with the exception of one B. He let the B go and I got to stay at home

I saw the B first and didn't really care as I knew I did the best I could in that class.
