Times Live (South Africa): US Firms Ask Court To Forbid Gay Marriage Bans
Large businesses from Main Street to Wall Street are urging the US Supreme Court to stamp out laws that allow states to ban same-sex marriage. In a friend-of-the-court brief that was filed in Washington on Thursday, hundreds of banks and other corporations argue that US states that still prohibit gay unions "hamper employer efforts to recruit and retain the most talented workforce possible in those states".

The court is expected to rule by late June.

By Wednesday night, 379 corporations and employer organisations had signed on to the brief, including Amazon.com, Apple, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, eBay, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, Google, Microsoft, Nike, Twitter and Walt Disney.

With 37 states allowing gay marriage and the rest banning it, the brief argues, employers face costly uncertainty and administrative complexities.

"The burden imposed by inconsistent and discriminatory state laws . [for] similarly situated employees breeds unnecessary confusion, tension, and diminished employee morale," it states.

Thoughts?

Give gays all the same rights and privelages a straight couple would have. But for some harmony and ending the endless anger from at least 50 percent of American's who will never except it just call it another name. Everyone speaks of compromise and understanding. This is one subject that needs just that.
