A US college football player has been charged after he was spotted barking at a police dog.

University of Florida linebacker Antonio Morrison was arrested early Sunday on two misdemeanours.

According to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, Morrison walked up to the open window of a police car and barked at a dog named Bear.

The dog responded by barking back, prompting an officer to arrest Morrison for interfering with a police canine.

He also was charged with resisting arrest.

It was the second arrest in little more than a month for the sophomore from Bolingbrook, Illilnois.

Morrison also was arrested on June 16 and accused of punching a bouncer.

He received a deferred prosecution on the simple battery charge, a deal in which he was ordered to stay out of trouble for six months.

Florida head football coach Will Muschamp announced via the team's official Twitter account that Morrison "has been suspended from the team and will miss at least two games to begin the season".

The car was parked. Therefore, the officer was not actively on a call. Since when is barking at a dog interfering with a police canine? :s

Sounds more to me that the cop didn't like that he got a deal. He was out to get him on anything that he could. Now, would the cop have reacted the same way if it was a child that barked at the dog? We all know the answer to that question.

It sounds to me that he was deliberately agitating the dog. We don't know if the police officer and his dog were on a break or if they were waiting for a call to come in, so they could have still been on duty. Also, we don't know if the police officer asked him to stop and he kept on doing it and we don't know the severity of the reaction from the dog. Also, he doesn't sound the most stable of person anyway.
