Three hundred US Marines have been deployed to northern Jordan to pave the way for the West to arm Syrian rebels.

A Patriot anti-aircraft missile system, designed to protect Jordanian territory from attack by Assad missiles, has also been moved into the area.

The deployment, seen by The Times north of Al-Mafraq, has been put in place under cover of a military training exercise being held this week, but it will remain there for months.

Bush was a seer, he created numerous presidential orders for the future in anticipation of new wars.

and in response Iran has sent 4,000 troops to support Syria .. this whole region is heading faster towards a complete meltdown

The U.S is in an infinite war. No soldier will ever come home. Even when Obama promised America "no more wars", he betrayed us.

US troops in Jordan 'a signal to Syria'

Hundreds of US troops are now stationed in Jordan, many remaining on after a joint military exercise. Their presence sends a message to neighbouring Syria, but as the BBC's Quentin Sommerville reports from Amman, it has stirred some unease in Jordan itself.

Attack helicopters flew low over the desert in Quweira in northern Jordan, swiftly destroying targets in the sand, while F16 and Harrier jump-jets provided back up.

A considerable show of force, Operation Eager Lion had more than 8,000 men and women taking part from more than 19 countries.

Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said he has provided President Barack Obama with options for military strikes in Syria, where the civil war has cost at least 93,000 lives.
