vBulletin

The older versions of vBulletin are the best, 3.8 will always be my favourite.

Also, a nice site. Keep up the good work :)

He re-created his forum using vBulletin, but instead of choosing the latest vBulleting version, he chose an older one, and I'm just wondering why he didn't go with version 5.0...
I google search on the wonder that is vb.5 should give you all the reasons you need, vb4.2 is a decent product but it is out of date and no longer being developed plus its a bit of a bitch on the admin side also it's not that great for user friendliness imho and that of my forum members so when we went to xenforo they participated far more than when we used vb4.2.

I don't think I need to google search anything. I've been analyzing vBulletin for a while and I am considering vBulletin 5 for a future project of mine. It's a tie between vBulletin 5 and Burning Board, although Burning Board does seem a little better.

I don't want to sound negative and it's no skin no off my nose what software you end up using in the end, but why would you even consider vb.5 given the amount of bugs, badly written code and general none user friendliness of the software and thats with out going into cost, bad customer support etc????
I would defiantly try Burning Board I have played with their demo and I was v impressed but when I played with vb.5 demo the complete opposite, it's no coincidence that the take up on vb.5 is so bad and the conversion away from vb as a whole by the forum community should sound warning bells to any admin.

Also no body is making any skins or mods for vb.5 if that dose not tell a story nothing will!!!

Anyway, I loved VB back in the 3.x.x days. Glad Kier and the rest created XenForo! They are talented developers. vBull in it's current state seems shotty and they shouldn't be charging people for it. It's comparable to MyBB, SMF & phpBB...

The thing is, after IB took over vB things went down hill including Kier leaving. Obviously he set up XenForo which is still missing a lot that vB had, it's definitely a more modern approach and overall I feel it is a better option.

Definitely the main reason I'm using XenForo over vBulletin. XenForo is so secure compared to other options like IPB, vB, and others. It's also just a cluster of useless features at this point and is not something that people should be charged for.

I am comfortable with xenforo as other members say it easy to use and secured. vBulletin 5 is the most expensive forum.
