In 2012, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) estimated that Americans ate an average of 52.3 pounds of beef, 57.4 pounds of chicken, and 43.5 pounds of pork, per person. Vegetarians, about 5% of the US population, do not eat meat (including poultry and seafood). The USDA includes meat as part of a balanced diet, but it also states that a vegetarian diet can meet "the recommended dietary allowances for nutrients."

Many proponents of vegetarianism say that eating meat harms health, wastes resources, causes deforestation, and creates pollution. They often argue that killing animals for food is cruel and unethical since non-animal food sources are plentiful.

Many opponents of a vegetarian diet say that meat consumption is healthful and humane, and that producing vegetables causes many of the same environmental problems as producing meat. They also argue that humans have been eating and enjoying meat for 2.3 million years.

Should people become vegetarian?

Vegetarians do have meat substitutes that take the place of beef, all vegetable patties, that can fried, baked broiled or grilled.....They also have substitutes for Tuna, and canned Chicken, or at least they did at one time....My Aunt Colleen and Uncle Wesley were Vegetarians......

In Biblical times (even before Jesus) meat was served....Beef, Pork, Poultry, and even fish, and there were also Vegetarians (Daniel, Esther).....It's up to the individual, and how they choose to live....Meat, or Veggies only......

I am actually looking to go a step further for January, I'm going Vegan for a month.

To be honest I don't think I could not eat meat long term.

And it would seem that Paul would agree with you.

Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day.
Colossians 2:16 (NIV)

I believe people should do what they want as long as it's not hurting them or hurting others. If you wanna be vegetarian, fine, be vegetarian. If you wanna be vegan, do that. If you wanna eat nothing but meat, well...you might wanna throw a few veggies in there, but hey, knock yourself out. xD I think vegetarians can really be healthy, especially if they include fish in their diet. At least then they'd be getting a good source of protein without eating other animals.
