Veteran turns himself in for killing estranged wife's family

This is sad to see. A coworker knew these people, he's heart broken over it.

The Government is failing miserably at getting many of these returning vets help they need. Even my father to this day has some trouble coping and has continuing nightmares and his tour ended in the 70's after losing an eye.

Unfortunately this man did not get the proper assistance when he returned home after his first encounter with law enforcement. Had intervention occurred when the first signs began to surface, there is a real possibility that this and other incidents could have been averted.

The wife should have done more as well once she noticed significant changes in the man she married and the and the man he was becoming.

It should be standard policy that if and when a vet starts to develop problems with any law enforcement interaction, that a referral be mandated to meet with and evaluate the situation and the circumstances that led to that encounter. Not to mark an individuals record, but to provide follow up to those men and women often simply abandoned by our government once discharged.

Very tragic story for all involved.
