Violence against women and girls is a problem of pandemic proportions. At least one out of every three women around the world has been beaten, coerced into sex, or otherwise abused in her lifetime with the abuser usually someone known to her.

Why are so many men violent towards women?



Is western society becoming more violent towards women, and if so, why?

I'm not sure why so many men are violent toward women. Many people are insecure and unhappy with their lives these days, I guess some men just naturally vent in that manner unfortunately.



I don't think its a growing problem by any means, but is a bigger problem in poor households where they are struggling to make ends meet. Is a shame really. People should be able to live comfortably enough to avoid this kind of stuff.

The men who do this, IMO, are men who have been abused as childern or have grown up in an environment where it was common place. These men have (IMO) low self esteem and anger issues.

They are also control freaks and many suffer some type of mental anti-social traits. Add drugs and/or alcohol and it just elevates the violence. These men (IMO) think women are second class citizens and have no respect for them.



Is western society becoming more violent towards women, and if so, why? With the economy the way it is and people losing their jobs and everything they have worked hard for causes stress and some men can't handle it. The biggest problem that I see when I respond to a domestic dispute where the woman has been beaten she is afraid to report her husband/boyfriend. Many have nowhere to go and stay in this abusive relationship thinking things will get better. Until abused women stand up for themselves and get out of this, the cycle just keeps on going. Bottom line (IMO) once an abuser always an abuser.

Yeah. In my opinion it's Ok if the woman is being nasty or horrible but doing it when she's not is just stupid

Surley despite the economic crisis, thats no real reason to abuse a women. There's boxing rings for punching things.



I can understand, slightly, about the men acting like this because they have been abused as children and are constantly angry, but really there's no excuse to beat another human being just becasue your angry at the world and all that.

Sometimes a women is violent towards the man so she deserves it.. and if she is big enough to throw it against a man then she is big enough to take it.. its not a one way street here. I am strongly against the whole you should never hit a women saying.. why? How is it OK for a women to be violent towards a male and not have loads of charges on them as much as a man would towards a women? I think its ridiculous like i said if they are big and 'mouthy' enough they are big enough to take a punch back (if they hit the male first.. viser verser with sex'es)



We are all human at the end of the day and should not be treated different no matter what the sex.. its sexism if you ask me!

2 wrongs dont make a right. Also a man is way more physically powerful than the average woman. What she does to him will be a fraction of what she may get in return.

I had girlfriends hit, slap and try to provoke me before. I'd never beat on a woman. Whoever thinks its fine to do that has some screwed up morals. In those situations Ive done do this: Restrain or block her from hitting me anymore and leave the premises.

I will come back several hours later or the next day or whenever things have cooled off and talk out the issue. If this is a normal occurrence then its time to end the relationship.

Well to be fair .. there's plenty of women who are stronger then men and do take advantage of the ' not hitting women law'



There could be a big overweight women hitting a weak brittle man or even old man and that is OK?



Ill stick by my guns when I say if a women is big enough to give it out she's big enough to take it its as simple as that

No If a man was hit by a women he should hit the women back since she would be big enough to throw it she is big enough to take it..

My last comment in this thread is that no one should hit another person. A man shouldn't hit a woman, and a woman shouldn't hit a man. Parents shouldn't hit their children. NO ONE should hit anyone.

Well I agree but .. there's also self defence if there's no way around getting out of the situation then you must.



I was stating in my posts my disagreement towards ' men should not hit women' i express my self in my posts i was not arguing a point about weather you should hit anyone in general i was going from the statement Nebulous posted.

I don't feel that strongly about violence against women. After all, no one really cares when a man gets beaten up by a woman and it's not seen as wrong.



I still think it's wrong though, don't get me wrong.

. As for your question about the western state, I don't know as I'm not in the States.

I find it shocking that anyone would be in favor of a man hitting a woman no matter what the circumstances. Guess we all don't have the same values and morals.
