Would you use a virtual reality headgear?

Do you think watching movies and TV shows with such a headgear would be worth it?

I would assume a lot more work would go into making those movies and TV shows, if you were able to watch 360 by moving your head and/or by hand gestures.

Do you think this type of technology/movie making is going to appear in the future?

VR Headgear Oculus RIFT is in development at the moment - I'd be curious to try it out with gaming.

I've wanted to experience VR for most of my life and finally my dreams are coming to fruition. I almost bought an Oculus Rift developers kit, but then the Facebook acquisition threw me off. After reading much of the discussion on this topic, I've come to the belief that it probably is a good thing for them after all. It still gives me a bit of a sick feeling though, but I'll probably still get the DK2 or just wait for the final product.

I really do think VR will have a huge impact on the future or media and entertainment, but it wont end there.

you sound like someone that would get a kick out of the concept william gibson talked about in one of his early Cyberpunk books where a person experiences something like a movie from the perspective of the main character.

I call this immersafilm, as a short hand, or immerfilm for short.

this is just one of the many types of content that become available when VR becomes a big thing, already the prototype stuff out is just plain amazing, you can combine the occulus with a 360 treadmill and a different type of controller to play games almost fully by motion alone.

combine that with EEG reading technology which is lesser known, and your very thoughts could control actions like say in a menu.

the tech is there, that's for certain, but it isn't all in one unit/setup yet.

I've heard a lot about the Oculus Rift. I want to try it out so badly but food and gas is more important right now.. :/

VR is a technology I'm most definitely confident about, and I would jump at any opportunity to get my hands on that Oculus.

This is probably fairly realistic in what to expect in the next 15 to 20 years.

Sword Art Online has made me extremely not confident in virtual reality, at least as far as gaming goes. >.>

I tried it at a gaming convention that rolled through town a few years ago, but as you can imagine, it was terrible. xD I got sick from it, vertigo, as the technology was not as advanced as it is today. However, I would like to try it again just to see the updates. I don't know if I could handle it again or use it as my primary means of gaming, but it's an interesting possibility.
