Airline passengers are facing massive disruption as ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland moves across UK airspace.

All non-emergency flights have been grounded in the UK.

The disruption, which also hit Irish and north European airspace, has left thousands of travellers stranded at home and abroad. National Air Traffic Services have said all flights in UK airspace are being grounded from noon to 6pm at the earliest

Wow! Those were some awesome pictures. What a mess and all those travelers now stuck not being able to fly out of there.

Aye, and we're being advised not to go outside, unless it's important.

BBC news said it's fine because it's so high up, and even if it did come down the concentration isn't high enough to cause any health issues.

Oh good

My mother lies...

She told me that. I don't watch the news. I learnt that it was ok to go outside when I looked on the web.

It could mix with rain but unlikely seeing as the ash cloud is above the rain clouds.

People can smell the sulfur even if they are many miles away from it. IMO if you can smell it then you probably shouldn't be out in it too much. Why take the risk for an unnecessary reason?

On the news here, they said a volcano can shoot this stuff up into the sky for a full year as it has happened before. There is no wind to carry or disperse this crap right now so they don't see air planes flying anytime soon in Europe due to the risk of engine failure by any plane going through the ash.

It's more like half of Europe. Plus flights from all over the world have been disrupted as they can't get into Europe.

A friend of mine got married on Thursday and she cant go on her honeymoon yet.
