Have you belonged to a site such as 1Award where you sign up and then ask your members to vote for your forum? If so, how did that go? Does it do anything for the forum itself, such as to gain new members, or do you do it just to win a badge/trophy for your board? Do tell! I'm curious.

I think those voting websites are just gimmicks for ad revenue. Whoever owns the voting websites has forums/websites across the internet begging their members for votes, which drives a ton of traffic to the voting website where the owner can benefit from all the exposure to the ads they place on their site.
