What if we voted for the next president, prime minister, or any other public official online?

Do you think this would be a good idea or not?

Some would say that the internet is safe enough to do your banking on, so why not vote for government officials?

There are going to be flaws in any system we use. Look at the incident in Florida in 2000 with the hanging chad incident where there had to be a recount. And both human and machine intervention occurred. It just depends on what security measures would be implemented and various other aspects that go into voting for a government official. Surely we'll make the switch in the future, but when is the question.

Maybe once they can figure out a computerized health care system and work out 100% of the flaws, we can all vote online.

What if they send out everyone a thumb print scanner and we all had to get fingerprinted to confirm who we are before voting on our home computers? :P

I'd rather welcome it, would be less of a hassle.

Votes actually get counted (and recounted) by hand by volunteers. Just seems like a huge waste of time to me.
If you and a few friends volunteered you could probably affect a swing vote just as easily as someone who hacked a computer system... but whatever.
