Men who are physically strong are more likely to take a right wing political stance, while weaker men are inclined to support the welfare state, according to a new study.

Researchers discovered political motivations may have evolutionary links to physical strength.

Men's upper-body strength predicts their political opinions on economic redistribution, according to the research.

Why does it always seem [to me] that social Darwinism is somewhere rooted in the backing for these kinds of studies? It reminds me of the study that correlated conservatism to low I.Q. and prejudiced beliefs. And then, of course, I'm reminded even further back to examples I have seen of scientific racism.

That sort of science was quite popular in the early Twentieth Century. Such as the work done by the Wilhelm Institute, which, as it turned out, was heavily funded by the Rockefellers.

Several of their researchers went on to, well, other things. I can point you in that general direction if you wish. But a search for the name of the institute should give you an idea of what they were up to.

No possible good can come from trying to identify social or political leanings based on physical, or genetic, traits and designing public policy from said data. And, in case you didn't know, the word for that is Eugenics.

So right-wing politicians should promote working out to get more votes?

Really, this is more telling about the image people have of politicians (and thus the image politicians strive for)...
