A West Side man accused of beating a disabled barber was ordered held on $500,000 bail Saturday.
Jermaine Owens, of the first block of North Pine Avenue, was charged with armed robbery and intimidating a witness, prosecutors said. Herbert Gary was previously charged in the case.
The two men approached the barber, who is missing a leg and has limited use of his left arm, as he sat in his car in the 3300 block of West Division Street on March 18, prosecutors said.
One man grabbed the barber's chain necklace as the other beat him with a 2-by-4 , prosecutors said, allowing them to make off with the chain and a medallion attached to it. The barber had scrapes and bruises to his head, authorities said.
About five hours later, the attackers went to the man's home in the 3200 block of West Crystal Street and one of them threatened to burn down his house if he called police, prosecutors said.
