I stole this from another forum.. I thought it was such an interesting and fun topic, so.… What classes do you think should be taught at schools?

There are a lot of classes I'd implement, yet too many I don't feel like listing.. Here are a few of the important ones to me: (they are mandatory to everyone)

Nutrition/health

Gym

Team sports

Reading (not english but a class where you read and discuss important books)

English

History of world not just where you're from

Marketing yourself in today's society. Such as etiquette and how to talk like a grownup

Language (2 years of another language and as a part you'll have to spend in that country)

I'll second:

Household Budgeting
Time Management

Make it mandatory to learn a second language (of their choice of course)
Basic medical course to learn about common sicknesses

I'd say whatever they're currently teaching already is what should be taught. :P

A desire to learn would be a first good lesson but then again that has to be taught in the home or everything any teacher does in school for the child would be a waste. It matters not how good the lesson is if the child does not desire to learn. Sometimes I think some of the classes people offered up here need to be learned from experience rather then in a classroom. I doubt there is anything anyone can do in a classroom that can drive the point of carefully budgeting ones finances home like being financially belly up a week before pay day.

I respectfully disagree, absolutely and with no equivocation.

Children are not taught how to learn. They're taught what to think and tested on their ability to retain whatever a teacher told them.

That's why our society is mostly a huge collection of sheep, happily swallowing whatever they hear first or whatever sounds more palatable.
