I'm fascinated by those who are interviewed on the TV news and talk about whatever the subject at hand is with the attitude that "Society Owes Them" __________.

The other day a woman was yammering on about how she needed a new "state phone" because the one she'd gotten under Mr. Obama's program had died. The State should give her one.

The TV station is lucky I wasn't on the crew because I would inform her that there is ONE thing that the State does owe her, but she probably wouldn't be happy to hear it.

What do you think SOCIETY as a whole owes to the individual that you never have to pay back?

“Everything you want in life has a price connected to it. There’s a price to pay if you want to make things better, a price to pay just for leaving things as they are, a price for everything.” — Harry Browne

To put it simply: No one owes you anything.

Sorry, Ma'am.

America itself, in the guise of the local jurisdiction of City/County, whatever, does owe each and every person, citizen or not when you come down to it) one thing. Which is part of the issue with those here illegally.

And I do have links to various source documents to back up my conjecture.

Any more guesses as to what?

I'm surprised some of the more liberal members haven't guess everything from air conditioning to wifi.

I'm disappointed.
Well, the thread itself was framed more like a statement than a debate, so I am not really that surprised. Nobody wants to be insulted or talked down to.

This. I grew up in a world knowing you had to work for whatever you want. So as much as I feel like I should be owed something, at least, for working my ass off with two jobs and paying my taxes, etc, I know that doesn't mean jack shit in this world. I wouldn't be surprised if my benefits were stripped away when I get older and retire (if I'm able to retire before I die). So the short answer is that this society I live in declares that it owes me nothing and I acknowledge that.

Nothing. No welfare, no food stamps, no social security, no Obama care, no Medicare, no medicade, no free phone, no minimum wage, no free birth control, no free housing, no unemployment. The only thing government owes us is restoring our Constitution and the true liberty we once had so we can work and pursue what we want.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, goodness, you crack me up.

So I think we found a person who does think they are owed something from government?

Did you not read my post in the thread? You might wanna get your eyes checked, old man.

I read it just fine. But I did put a ? mark at the end of my statement for your explanation on why I might crack you up.

OK, here goes.

Most jurisdictions have similar laws, so we'll pick on Ohio just for giggles.
9.15 Burial or cremation of body at expense of township or municipal corporation.

When the body of a dead person is found in a township or municipal corporation, and such person was not an inmate of a correctional, benevolent, or charitable institution of this state, and the body is not claimed by any person for private interment or cremation at the person's own expense, or delivered for the purpose of medical or surgical study or dissection in accordance with section 1713.34 of the Revised Code, it shall be disposed of as follows:

(A) If the person was a legal resident of the county, the proper officers of the township or municipal corporation in which the person's body was found shall cause it to be buried orcremated at the expense of the township or municipal corporation in which the person had a legal residence at the time of death.

(B) If the person had a legal residence in any other county of the state at the time of death, the superintendent of the county home of the county in which such body was found shall cause it to be buried or cremated at the expense of the township or municipal corporation in which the person had a legal residence at the time of death.

That's right.

Society, as a whole, owes you a 'hole in the ground' once you assume room temperature. And that's it.

If the government is taking money out of my check, then yes they owe me something. However, if we were to cease that and I got to earn as much as I worked for without taxes and whatnot being taken away then no, society owes me nothing. That isn't the way of things, though.

The Income Tax is SUPPOSED to enable the duties of government as defined here:

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

Unfortunately, that too has been subverted.

If government took out the money from your check and used it on what is actually allowed under the constitution the only thing society would owe you is a right and protection to pursue those dreams. But if you fail society would not owe you anything but instead hopefully the charity from individuals.

Way to point out the obvious, captain. If I wasn't paying taxes or doing anything as an able-bodied person, then yeah I don't deserve squat.
