What is your earliest memory?

How old were you?

Why do you remember that moment?

My father walking out on Christmas Day, I was 4. My parents were separated already, my father had come down to spend Christmas with his kids, but he had agreed that he would buy and bring a bike for my sister as her big present for the year, she was 5 and wanted a bike. Naturally, him being a financial idiot (which we knew nothing about at that age), he came down with no money and no bike because he'd spent it all on nonsense. My mother got mad, which is understandable, they had a fight, which we hated, he walked out and my first memory formed in my head is that entire sequence of events and me chasing after my father as he walked on down the road away from me. Devastated me as a child, but I didn't know then what I know now...

At three: Landing on a coiled up rattlesnake in the path I was running down barefoot. I remember being surprised that the snake was not slimy.
Turned out okay!
Things like that tend to stick with a person forever.

I heard my Da coming to bed singing as he did so. I was 3. This was back in Ireland. Why do I remember it? Because I just do.

Going to Aladdin's Castle for the first time at age 8 circa 1986.

I think it was my 3rd or 4th birthday party. For some reason I remember a cake with a red baseball cap on it (made of icing) and me blowing out the candles.

My earliest memories are of when I was 5 and even those memories are vague to me.
