For me, I wanted to do something with science, technology, and information since I was in the fourth grade. Going back and forth between wanting to be 'a scientist' and 'a reporter' from then until I was in college.
Which was when the real world set in, and I had to "get a job".
And then....
And then I spent the last fifteen years of my career working in a state technology center, down the hall from the mainframe and server farm, coordinating and focusing information from all and sundry to and from those that needed or wanted it, and then translating technospeak into something the rest of the world could understand, and so on. Working in direct support for all of those "gee whiz" systems and their captive geeks, and the rest of the citizens of the state, and the vendors that kept it all on line.
It was, essentially, the perfect job for me.
So, don't give up on your dreams. You may take the scenic route, but they can still come true.
