What makes you open up to new friends?

People's level of honesty is something that can make me open up to them. I will always want a situation where they are open to me at first before I can share some personal details about me with them. What is it that makes you open up to people?

For me, "Common ground" is not usually necessary, but that certainly is a good starting point.

I find myself being a bit cautious when it comes to any new friendships. I like to listen and observe first. Past experiences have made me this way. With that said, common interests, respecting boundaries, honesty, and trust. If I can't trust you, I'm not opening up to you. As simple as that.
