What reasons would make you want to be staff on a forum?

I used to want to be. I don't anymore, honestly. Back when I was in high school, I had a lot of time and I wanted to feel useful, productive, so I frequented message boards. I remembered wanting to be on the Staff Team on many forums I had been on (and was Staff for more than a few of them). I did it because it made me feel "important," but, in retrospect, as an adult, now with a finite amount of time, I realize it is an unpaid position I'm accepting and turning my leisure time into work for another person's product. There isn't anything wrong with that, if you truly believe in what they're trying to do. As of now, no forum has a cause I want to afford that much of myself to (other than as a hobby, chatting, etc.) and I merely go to forums as a poster.

If the niche fits my personality well, I wouldn't mind being a staff member on the board. Coding/webmaster/tech support/etc. are my types of communities and if I find one I enjoy enough I may either work hard enough to try and obtain a staff position or apply if they are accepting applications.

Back in the days of teenagehood, I think I especially felt like I wanted to be a staff member for acceptance. Nowadays, I just want to help the communities I am a staff member of strive and treat the board as if it were my own board, meaning to make it the best it can be!

Depends on the forum. If the forum is unique or if the forum just started working, I always feel that need to be part of the team because I always had a desire to own a forum. I mean, I do now but it's a free domain/hosting and you don't have that good platform. I wish I can afford XenForo.

If it's a forum that I have a deep connection to, and I enjoy the members, I will want to be on staff. However, I don't ask about it. If one of the admins is advertising that they need help, I will offer my assistance. I never go out of my way to ask if anyone is in need of help.

If I have a sense of fondness for a community and enjoy being there, I'd consider it if I had the free time. However these days that is not something I have. FA and OT take up all my free time when I am online.

I like to help. If I feel I can help, I try to. Forums are in an interesting spot, we all need to support one another to keep them going.

If it's a niche I'm interested or I just want to help then I'll get the urge to be staff. Though of course that all depends on if I have the time to help out of course! Like Crystal said above, forums aren't how they used to be and we should all be helping each other out in some way, though we don't necessarily have to be staff to help out just making a few posts here and there can help. :)

Reminds me of @Nebulous - he always pops into all his friends’ forums to say hi and happy weekend and happy holidays 😻

For me it has to be an active forum with alot of threads and post, an active member base and something that I'm interested in like gaming.

The commitment that I see on the team can be a reason for joining the staff. I want to be part of the team where things are going the way that it should be and where a lot of people that are on staff put in their best in achieving the goals of the forum or blog.
