What separates humans from animals? Do you consider humans to be a kind of animal?

A lot of people say that the power of reason separates humans from the rest of the animals. But, studies seem to show that chimps can reason things out; and our dog seems to be able to 'think some problems out'.

We are animals! Humans and animals both eat, sleep, think, and communicate. We are also similar in a lot of the ways our bodies work.

Animals kill for food and in self-defense. Humans kill for food, in self-defense, for fun, in vengeance and for plethora or other reasons. Humans are the worst kind of animals on this planet.

Generally speaking that all may be so; but, domestic cats will 'thrill-kill' for fun....then go off and leave the prey once they've had their fun for the moment.
You've heard the term "pack mentality"? Dogs running loose will gather into a pack, start a game of "chase the sheep", or even cattle. Chase & kill some of them just for a game with no hunger or intent of eating said livestock.
One might view actions like this as evil or as natural.
Or naturally evil.

Yes, cats do seem to have a thing for hunting and killing innocent birds, tossing them around a bit and then leaving them wherever they happen to lose interest in them.

Still, it's in their nature to do that. If all humans acted like that, modern society as we know it wouldn't exist. We'd still be living in the caves, clobbering each other to death over every disagreement, or just for the heck of it. So, a measure of self-control for those of us who can control ourselves, laws and prisons for those who can't.

Somebody needs to do their homework.
Or, perhaps, ignorance IS bliss.

Chimps kill for no other reason than just to kill.

As do dolphins.

And the list of animals that kill for reasons other than survival include elephants, some insects, and even fish.

Not the dolphins!!!!!! I'll never look at a dolphin the same way again

I think I heard that about monkeys before, but that makes sense. They are us, just a different version.

That's getting to be a pretty long list! I wonder why "we" as a populace have that misconception.
