What's a good build budget for me?

I've always wanted to build my own custom PC. A desktop. I'm old and still like desktops, LOL.

I mainly want to build a strong and fast desktop that will be dedicated to editing high quality 4K video footage.

What kind of budget would you recommend? Also what parts/brands/etc.? I'd love all the suggestions I can get.

I do want to note, I'd rather not have to sodder(sp?) anything.

You only need to solder if you really want to get into it. Otherwise, you can get some nice custom pre-builds between 1200-2000 dollars.

My husband spent around $2000 for ours. I think it would help to start with what software programs are you looking to use and look at their minimum required specs. Then take a look at the parts that you need to build based around those requirements and get the best hardware you can afford.

The best build for today is the

R5 5600x or the i5-12000k with the RTX 3060 ti.

It's gonna be around 1200$ with all the other components like RAM memory and SSD drives.

Basically this. For example, if you’re not into PC gaming, having a really nice build for gaming isn’t going to do you much good. You’ll be overspending on stuff like the GPU and CPU that you won’t be utilizing.

GPUs are the most expensive hardware on the market and for an RTX 3090 you are looking at $1800 just for a card. RTX 2000 series would be a far cheaper option but do not expect to get a new card.

The best bet goes into the store and buy a pre-built PC.

What's your budget? I suggest buying a prebuilt machine and upgrading it if need be. Check out places like Best Buy for deals since its currently tax season, most places have deals on electronics. Micro Center would be the best place to get components if you don't want to purchase components on Newegg, and if you want to go down the building route. Getting a used graphics card would be the cheapest option too, since that's the main component that's really going to set you back.
