When you get a scratched DVD?

Does a scratched up dvd bother you or do you not care as long as it works?

depends on the film.

I have only ever had two scratched dvds.

elf, and shutter island

I didn't really care about it, in shutter island's case, it played fine anyway

elf didn't, but I still didn't care because... well, it's only elf
I'd only care if it was a dvd I really liked

for example, if my lion king or wizard of oz dvds got scratched up, I'd replace them- working or not.

(I have 5 copies of lion king for this very reason)

I keep mine safe by digitizing them, so no chance for scratches. When it has happened, though, I try to clean it and use it.

I used to get those at the video shop so I would let them know. They would generally give me a free credit for another dvd.

It does bother me, but as long as it still plays, I guess it's fine. I take precautions to prevent this from happening to DVDs and especially my video games. One time I traded in some games at GameStop and the lady told me my games were spotless. I take pride it that. xD

Its a shame that cartridge games have gone out of style, they're much more durable.

I have a bad habit of buying stuff and then not watching it until years later, so odds are if I notice it will be way too late.

My JFJ Easy Pro can only do so much to repair deep scratches on DVD's that I buy used. These machines do a decent job resurfacing discs and they were used by rental stores and Game Stop to fully resurface dvds for re-sale

This is why I don't lend out my stuff to people anymore. I keep my DVDs/CDs in pristine condition. I let a cousin borrow a CD and they returned it scratched up, not at all how it was before. It does tick me off but as long as it still plays especially if it's something hard to get again...

I refuse to loan anyone anything. Learning the hard way was not a fun experience. In the past people have either returned my stuff damaged and in really bad condition or they keep it and never return it. A lot of people mistake the concept of borrowing like it was given to them. I've had people lie to my face and tell me that I gave my movie or game to them when I agreed to let them borrow it. I have learned that once those items leave my hand, It is highly probable that I may never see them again. So no, I don't lend out anymore. Those people can go buy their own.

Completely agree with you. Also, other people are not going to take care of stuff like we do. When I buy stuff I like to make sure it’s in mint condition. I have cds from over 20 years that’s I’ve kept in good shape.
