Which book (or other piece of writing) would you *never* for the life of you *ever* recommend anyone?

American Psycho. Some of the descriptions of murder and mayhem made me sick; especially one dealing with the murder of a small child.

As gory and fucked up as the book is, it's one of my favorites.  Bret Easton Ellis does an amazing job slipping into the mindset of someone who is psychopathic and murderous, but you have to actually read through the entire book to understand how it turns out in the end.  I like it because of how incredibly detailed and intricate the book delves into the underlying psychology behind how insane Patrick Bateman was in a society so over exaggerated by consumerism and capitalism, that everything--including human beings--are a commodity and how the id can be a devastating side of the psyche we often refrain from showing other people.  I can see, however, if you cannot handle that kind of material that you probably should read it or even watch the movie.
