White House releases Obama birth certificate

WASHINGTON -The White House has released the long form of President Barack Obama's birth certificate in response to questions about whether he was really born in the U.S.

The certificate, released Wednesday, says Obama was born in Hawaii, which makes him eligible to hold the office of president. Obama had earlier released a standard short form, but requested copies of his original birth certificate from Hawaii officials this week in hopes of quieting the controversy.



White House spokesman Jay Carney says Obama felt the debate over his birthplace had become a sideshow that was bad for the country and political debate.



So-called birthers opposed to Obama have kept the issue alive. Potential presidential candidate Donald Trump recently began questioning why Obama hadn't ensured the long form was released.

I think it was really unnecessary to do... and I also think this had made Obama cringe and feel annoyed. I don't know why people thought he wasn't born in the US.

Obvious answer would be because he's black and his full name is Barack Hussein Obama. The so called birthers are nothing but a bunch of bigots. I'm quite sure Obama has more important things right now to worry about other than having to prove he is a citizen of the US. No white President has been asked to prove their citizenship status. All sounds a little racist to me and I'm sick of hearing/reading about it.

I agree with her also, so she's given a +1 from me too. Also, Donald Trump has been bragging about being the only one to make Obama release his birth certificate for proof. Not only are the birthers are being racist bigots but they're claiming that the certificate is fake. Obama really doesn't have time to deal with such nonsense... seriously.

since this question surrounding his birth certificate has been around since he got elected why didnt he just produce it sooner?.....would have made things a lot easier all round, wouldnt it?.....................and you cant say 'it had to be looked for' cos the 'most powerful man in the world' (big lol!) with massive resources of an entire fbi/cia/secret service/etc should be able to make it appear double quick

I found this article, about the Birthers Claiming that his birth certificate is fake. And then I read the comments. This one stood out:

The document is obviously fake. I could not feel a raised seal when I touched the document on the computer monitor.

why did he not just produce it?.......not difficult surely....no big deal if he had one....surely one must have been on record for him to have been made governer or senator or what ever he was....just seems so simple to me
