Why Britain Uses Separate Hot And Cold Taps

Oh wow. I actually wondered why it was that way over there. I went to visit my boyfriend some time ago and it amazed me that he had two different taps on not only the sink, but bathtub too. It's a bit awkward for the bathtub though! It's hard to get the right temp for your bath water, specially when you're like me and so used to just one tap. I always buy purified bottled water anyways, I can't stand tap water where I live as it tastes like chlorine and other chemicals.
Thanks for sharing, this actually makes sense!

yes and no...............all depends on the age of the building.........my apartment is only 10 years old and dont have that sort of system so i have mixer taps

I grew up being told never drink from the hot water tap, never to cook with it or even do something like run my toothbrush under it because of the water supply coming from the tank in the attic. My father was a builder and he used to tell stories of seeing dead birds in peoples uncovered water tanks.

I live in a much newer house now but still have separate taps and the don't drink hot water thing has stuck with me I just can't do it even with the newer water system. On the odd occasion I go somewhere where they have mixer taps I always do what the guy in the video does and run the cold water for a few seconds before I will even consider drinking it.

I wouldn't mind having separate taps for sinks, but I like having just one for the shower/bath tub.

All of my bathroom sinks have separate hot and cold taps. Not the bathtubs...just the sinks.

I hate single handles for most things. All three of my bathrooms in my newer home have two handles for the sinks and therapy tub. The showers they put in use the one handle system. So when you turn it on it is full force water immediately but you can adjust the temperature as you turn the handle clockwise. But you cant adjust the flow of how much water you use. So if that is annoying you either have to rip out the wall and change out the manifold or go the cheaper route and get a shower head you can control the flow of water. Sometimes older ideas are better then newer ideas.
