Why do people lie to themselves?

A very common thing people do when it comes to new year is lying to themselves about being a new person and all but in all honesty, they're never new. They are still the same person with the same habit they can't stop.

Nope. I'm set in my ways. I don't want to change. I like the way I am. I'm sure there's something about us that we all need to change, but we're just not motivated enough.
