Long-serving, and vastly-declined, media player Winamp is set to cease after 16 years of service.

The product was launched by Nullsoft back in 1997 and bought by AOL two years later. It became one of the leading and most popular media players of the late 90s and early 2000s.

Now, however, it’s been announced that Winamp will cease operations from 20 December. While old versions of the program will still be available, no new updates or support will be offered.

Aww, I remember that program! Haven't used it in years though.

Sucks they are going closed. I used them a time or two. Wonder what this means for online radio stations if any are still using the service.

Some of the people in my class had this shocked expression on their face as if they were about to die when they heard this. xD I don't really care. I never thought it was all that special or great.

I never much liked Winamp. It felt too irritating to use, and it never seemed to label my music correctly. I use Windows Media Player and Zune anyway so this doesn't harm me.
