Woman killed cat and four kittens with hammer because the children didn’t tidy their rooms

A woman killed a cat and her four kittens because her grandchildren hadn’t cleaned their rooms, police said.

Police were called to a property in Godfrey, Illionois, following reports that one of the occupants had discovered a dead cat in the family freezer.

When the arriving officer asked what had happened, the girl’s grandmother, Josephine E. Bell, told him that she had killed the cat and its four kittens with a hammer – because the children hadn’t cleaned their rooms.

Bell, 71, was taken into custody and transported to Madison County Jail, where she will remain in custody pending a formal review.

She reportedly told police that she didn’t feel it was her responsibility to take care of the pets.

The kittens had been disposed of and could not be located.

Poor innocent cat and kittens. Saddest part is she will probably only get a fine. Animal abuse laws NEED to be stricter and carry jail time. Hope one day those laws come to fruition.

There needs to be harsher penalties. What this woman did was disturbing. To be so callous toward a living being. I feel that people who abuse animals are just as likely to abuse people.
