Woman raising grandkids gets prison over pot sales

A 65-year-old Pennsylvania woman who said she sold marijuana to help raise several grandchildren after her daughter died has been sentenced to 15 to 30 months in state prison.

The (Tarentum) Valley News Dispatch reports Candace Kelly was also ordered Thursday to forfeit $393,000 that state police seized as drug proceeds when they raided her Buffalo Township home last fall. Police also seized 64 pounds of hydroponically grown marijuana.

Kelly pleaded guilty in October, telling a Butler County judge she sold as much as 100 pounds of marijuana a year for more than four years.

She said she used the money to support her four granddaughters.

Questions:
1) Do you agree or disagree with her sentence and why?

2) Did the state police have the right to seize the $393,000? Why/Why not?

It's only a profit of $10,000 a year based on the story, meaning that over four years she could have only made $40,000 at best making $353,000 her own capital to begin with. Something is not adding up here. :|

She knew the rules now she and the kids have to pay the price. But I would rather see the money go to the kids then get in the hands of the government.

that's what the government is best at doing, stealing people's cash and property for petty crimes...

not all of that money was the weed money so no, not all of the money should be taken away from her...

and going to prison for weed is sick...
