Alerts auto-refresh ajax by OzzModz is such a good QoL change and I never see anyone use it. Should be a core feature IMO.
For paid addons, I love XFOptimize and SEO Tools, both by Nulumia. They're in beta but their still very well put together and the dev is pretty committed.

I feel like just about every XF forum is using this:
I always get XF's own Media and Resources addons. I don't get the search because I don't feel like I need it yet.
I also love Xon's addons, Bob's addons, and Ozzy's addons.
I go for Pixel Exit for themes.
I try to avoid adding too many addons, though. Addon just means a secondary backdoor. Too many of them is a bad thing.
