Yahoo has announced a long-awaited update to its homepage as it attempts to regain some of the ground lost to Google and halt falling revenues.

The new page - being rolled out from today, starting in the US – has been redesigned in an effort to get users to visit the site more frequently, and to spend more time there when they do so.

Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer used her blog to announce a “new, more modern” Yahoo.

It is the first time the search engine has redesigned the page in four years, a time which has seen annual revenue drop by around 30 per cent from $7.2bn in 2008 to $5bn in 2012 as more advertising revenue went to rivals.

Ms Mayer knows a little bit about the main competition, having spent 13 years helping to build Google into its position as the dominant internet company.

She writes: “Designed to be more intuitive and personal, the new Yahoo! experience is all about your interests and preferences.

I use Yahoo and hate this new update. I wish they would have just left things alone!

If you use Yahoo, what do you think of the update?

It's horrible too when you try to log out of one account to get to another account. Most times I try, it takes me to the damn profile page!

Unfortunately, because I have a lot of business contacts that use my Yahoo account, I can't up and leave.

It sucks.

And it won't work to save the company.

ALL of the features, ads, and crap that I had turned off are BACK, and I can't turn some them off now.

This is progress?

They probably get revenue per view. Since you can no longer not view them, they'll get the money every time you access it. It probably won't save them, but it's a nice try.

I don't use Yahoo but...

...it looks better. Regardless of any functionality it may or may not have.

Haven't cared for it at all. While its nice that the inbox automatically show me new emails when I'm already in my inbox. I still don't care enough to really want to like all the changes.
