What should you never have to apologize for?
 
Doesn't bother me to say sorry if I forgot to say something or overlooked an action I could have done to make someone feel better. In your example, I would've immediately said, "Sorry, I totally forgot. Thanks. :)" and would feel both natural and authentic about it. Sorry feels like an easy thing for me to say, really, and both extinguishes and de-escalates everything. :)

In most situations, though, I won't say sorry for something I am not sorry for.
 
Your opinion—there is no right or wrong opinion, and there’d be a lot less arguments if more people could just respect and appreciate different insights.
 
I will not apologize in anything I decided for myself. I can bear dealing with the bashers, but I will not explain myself to them either.
