The leading cause of deaths in England turns out not to be car accidents or cancer – but heart disorders.
More than 150,000 people died from circulatory problems in 2013, new data from the NHS and the World Health Organisation shows.
Meanwhile murder claimed 970 lives and 7,680 succumbed to infection. The second biggest killer in England was cancer, claiming 110,400 lives.
Deaths from terror attack are said to be so statistically unlikely they do not feature in the data set.
The data has been released as part of an interactive ‘Atlas of Risk’, designed to help patients understand the biggest killers out there.
