as far as fooling the dog, it's not that you're wanting to fool the dog, as to you wanting to know if the dog has what it takes to make the call and actually act upon it's own instincts of saving his human friend...
i'm sure they gave the dog treats and stuff afterwards just like how dog trainers do whatever they do a trick or to do anything they get trained to do...
