Is zero tolerance policing (strict and set responses to all crimes by police) a good way of reducing crime?

I don't see how removing all thought from policing anything is ever a good thing IMO. No two circumstances are ever alike so I don't see how a one shoe fits all mindset is ever going to work.

Unless you manage to turn some pocket realm into a prison I don't see how there's gonna be space for it.

To all crimes my answer would be no. IMO, (which I'll probably get flack from) is I believe that if a person murders another then they should be put to death in the same manner as they took a life. Forget this (IMO) death row sentence that causes tax payers thousands of dollars to keep murders alive and pay for all their appeals. Reduce crime? Never going to happen. I do believe, however, if they passed legislation an eye for and eye punishment it would lessen the murder rate.

Yes. If someone is pinned quickly and punished severely for a crime, it's more likely to persuade other people not to get into the same situation.
