How are the police in your city and how do you feel around them?

Useless. How do I feel when I'm around them? Meh...one rarely sees a cop, when out and about...that's part of the *problem*.

In their *defense*, Stockton DID file for bankruptcy, a couple of years back. This made several of the veteran/experienced cops leave and find employment in more stable cities, leaving us with a disproportionate amount of rookies.

To boot, there's always rumors swirling that the cops are actually 'in' with the gangs; that the *terror* the gangs (attempt to) instill in the citizens actually helps the police maintain order...since 'every'one is so afraid to venture outside their homes.

@Jazzy

I assume the latest police shooting out of South Carolina *prompted* this thread? If not - and if others haven't heard of it - here's the video...it's kinda graphic...

<iframe width="560" height="315" src="" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

When it occurred on Saturday, the police officer reported the man - who was pulled over for a broken tail light - had reached for his taser and they'd struggled over it. Unfortunately, a passer-by's cell phone video shows something completely different...so the cop's been arrested and is being held without bail

on murder charges.

The police in my area? *shrug* They're mostly okay, but I haven't dealt much with them over in this area. I feel a lot of the more dangerous incidents take place across the river where there's a lot of gang activity and more violent crimes (statistically). In any case, downtown gets pretty bad, but I see the police kind of on a neutral plane. There are cities out there where they're much more trigger happy and quick to blame others; however, there have been incidents in the Portland-Metro area where that is the case as well, but that's going to be a matter of human fault. Not everyone is going to be good at their job regardless of what you do. There are bad eggs in every profession, it's just that police are given more authority to fuck you up if you do one thing they deem sketchy.

Honestly being Canadian we do have a bit of a different take on many things.

... ... And in Trenton NJ, they want to cops to do something all of the sudden,

Trenton, New Jersey (My9NJ) -

10 April

Video shows the vicious beating of two sisters by a crowd in Trenton's Greg Grant Park.

The video of the brutal assaults on Destiny Cooke, 16, and Lajahia Cooke, 17, has been shared on several Facebook pages.

The sisters were allegedly “play fighting” with friends.

People nearby misinterpreted the fight, left the scene, and came back with a crowd of people to join in.

The riot ended up including adults.

As the bystanders were encouraging the fight, Lajahia, the older sister, went to defend her sister but got swept up and beaten instead.

During the brawl, Destiny Cooke lost a chunk of her hair leaving a bald spot and Lajahia Cooke was struck in the right ear with a brick. The wound required 15 stiches.

Destiny Cooke explained how she attempted to call for help, “I called my mom and I'm like well can you come get us because there's like grown women here and like they're waking up to us and as I'm talking to her got hit and like my phone fell and I just had to defend myself."

The Cooke sisters claim that Trenton police officers were parked nearby but took no action.

The mother of the teens, Laronda Cooke, said that she is outraged.

“I'm angry with the Trenton police department. You should have cleared that park out because that is a public park. You should have told everybody that they had to leave that park that you would have found my kids in the back of that park bleeding,” she stated.

@ savona:

Gosh...here in the U.S. we only get to spray down our policemen

when they show up at bachelorette parties.

There are no police in my town. We have to call 911 and then they dispatch the nearest State Trooper. There's no doubt that you do not want to mess with a State Trooper. They all look like they've got a rod stuck up their behind and an attitude to go with it. I've met a few exceptions but they were few and far between.
