Really a huge fan of this franchise.
Terminator 5: Genesis is more based on a paradox method. Because of T-2, T-3, and TSCC, many things have changed because of the events in the films and th series. John has changed the past as well as his future.To change the future, you have to change the past. Its good to know Sarah Connor will be back in the movies. She had a key role in TSCC. Since Cameron/ T0K-715 warned her that she would get cancer, creating a paradox and altering the time line, it is mainly the reason why she is alive in the 5th film is what I'm guessing.
The story and plot is that Skynet will send back an army of Terminators and Hunter Kill Units through the Time Displacement Equipment and complete and guarantee its presence and existence in our present time. What ever time that the story is placed in. Like in the series. Sarah Connor and the subject of cancer are no longer on the table.
The events that happened in T-2 and T-3 has changed due to paradox. Perhaps she got her cancer from completing a task to stop Skynet in that time, however due to the events of T-3 and T-4 which resulted in the events of TSCC. Supposedly Skynet's goal is to kill of John Connor and anyone else who opposes it and destroy the human race. T-5 really ties in with TSCC, at the end of TSCC, John Connor is sent into the future and will be referenced in this film.
Also on the subject of T-5, I find it amazing that there are multiple time lines where Sarah was raised by a T-800 that was sent back to another time line to collect Sarah.
Everything they are doing in this movie completely crosses out the 3rd and 4th films.

I think they did a good job picking out the actors. Also like the direction this movie is going to take us as far as bringing Sarah and Kyle back into the story as well.
I heard the producers think it's a failure due to not earning enough money for their taste in US. Now they're waiting to see how well it goes in China. Apparently, the success of this movie will determine whether the Terminator franchise lives on in a new show or dies with it.
That's the problem. Apparently, the movie didn't earn enough money in US to cover the costs of making it, so the producers automatically wrote it off as a failure.
Can't really blame them, though. Movie industry is just a form of business, and business is all about the money.
