Pay to be a member forums

Ever seen any forums where you have to pay a certain amount of money just to be a regular member? Thoughts on that?

None that I recall. If they want my money, they'd better make me an offer I can't refuse.

I've never seen it and would never use it. The problem with a forum like that would be how would you know what you're paying for when it would have to be private from guests for the system to work?

$5 to upload an avatar. $5 for No-ads. $10 to change your username, etc.

I never joined that forum. The software looks primitive (uses a vBulletin version from the early 2000's), members seem to be edgelords. Lol

I feel like this is a security issue waiting to happen lol. As for the pay-to-chat thing I'm not for that at all. I think that donating would go further than paying to talk. It seems almost pointless.

They seem to have a lot of active members so I suppose there is a market for it. Just doesn't seem right when I've used forums for free my whole internet career.

If it were a resourceful board that provided some type of benefit to me, I may consider paying, but most things you can find for free on the internet somehow and someway.

Not that I would ever do it, but it seems like a good strategy for the forum I mentioned above. Seems pretty active, maybe people are more inclined to stick around since they paid to be there.

I think it only works out for a select small number of forums out there.
