Please, serious discussion.

What are your considering factors when shopping for a web host?

Discuss your top priority needs down to your wants. What are your top 3 must-haves? What are your top 3 wants?

I’ve been using HawkHost for a long as I can remember and I chose them based off recommendations from other forum owners who used them. So I suppose I don’t really have any experience with shopping around for webhosts. If I were to change hosts I would google the host and search for reviews, articles written about them etc. See what kind of reputation they have. How many year they’ve been in business is another factor. Do they have a 99.9% uptime guarantee? How is the support? Stuff like that.

Taking into consideration that reviews can be bought, prefabbed, or created by the companies; how important are the reviews when deciding?

Isn’t there a forum called web hosting talk or something like that? Those are usually legit people?

WebHostingTalk, yes. Usually posts and such on there are pretty legit. I've seen companies buy reviews on Serchen and TrustPilot and other platforms such as that. WHT has been going downhill for a few years. Their member base is slowly fading away and I barely get hits from their forum nowadays.

Yeah they used to be the top dawg back in the day, surprised they’re still open.

What are your top 3 must-haves?
- High data caps and storage caps.
- cPanel is nice to have, but not necessarily a requirement.
- A competent support team.
What are your top 3 wants?
- Lower prices. My current hosting is extremely reasonable.
- The ability to host from a VPS or dedicated server, if needed.
- Affiliate program.
