How can you know when to sell a stock? Is it better to sell too early than too late?

After you take out the presents Santa left in it for you, not before. Might wanna sell the other one too with it, though. Not sure who'd even buy just one without the other one. I mean, they do come in pair after all.

I have never even owned any stocks. Thought about buying some. I just dont want to risk losing money.
