At what age are we fully responsible for our actions?

What is the youngest age that a criminal should be punished as an adult?

Is it right to give a child a life sentence or the death sentence?

I think 18 is the reasonable threshold with rare exceptions such as premeditated murder or mass murder. Death penalty, though? No, I don't agree with that for minors, no matter what their crime.

Legally or morally?

While still in the womb. Kicking your mother from the inside should be illegal. :p

All humans are sentenced to life by default. Death is a salvation.

:biglol: Only your brain would think of that! :P

Anyway, I'd say 14 or 15 would be the youngest depending on the circumstances and what they did.

From the age of 12. By this time you should know right from wrong.

Fair point, Kale. Something serious such as rape, murder or another crime which used violence should definitely be punished with an adult sentence.

As a child you should get a second chance for almost everything but murder and rape or something that scars another human being for life like being crippled because you drove drunk. Murder and rape death penalty for everyone. Something like driving drunk and making someone crippled life in jail.

I agree, there is no excuse for things like that, no matter how old you are.

Yep, agree. I have no remorse or sympathy for people who were drinking and driving which caused someone to become paralyzed or die. I will never forgive the perosn if it were a family member or friend. You made a shitty choice, live with the consequences.

Well many years ago in the UK..two ten year old boys..took a two year old by the hand from a shopping centre. His mother let go for a second..turned and he was gone. They tortured him and left him on railway tracks where you can guess what happened… They knew right from wrong. One of them is addicted to kiddie porn. He should be locked away in a mental hospital in my opinion…

I think for someone young carrying out terrible acts, they were probably subject to a lot of abuse and suffering themselves. However,I think when a human being crosses a certain line of depravity involving heinous acts, it's very hard to put that genie back in the bottle. At the very least, they probably cannot live a life that is unsupervised for years.

For a very young child say 7 , not sure what one can do? I don't think we really want to execute children for crimes. A 7 yr old really cannot understand life and death. But, if that 7 yr old has done terrible things, it's going to be very difficult to let that child then grow up in society without a lot of supervision.

Perhaps life in a physciatric ward is where the children mentioned above belong. I suppose all of these scenarios should be handled on a case by case basis.

I remember that story! I read about it in Time Magazine when I was a teenager.

The death penalty should be given to any serious criminal 14 and above. By then, you KNOW right from wrong.

Because in Britain and Ireland, one ceases to be classed as a child at 14. And by then you definitely should distinguish right from wrong. After all, you are only 4 years from adulthood.

That's two separate questions,

Some people NEVER become mature.

Others are precocious.

In terms of criminal responsibility NO juvenile should EVER be tried as an adult.
