I’ve seen the trailer and the movie. I was responding to @Aarons comment regarding the director being from New Zealand.
The Aunt spent more time making her and running tests on Megan and running social experiments with her disturbed niece before she went full on terminator and started killing people. She basically gave her kid a handicap. She couldn't even tell her no without fear of the droid doing something. In a way, her niece was the antagonist seeing as the droid killed people who upset her.
