What we do first, because we live rural & have stray cats, I put a clothesbasket over it so it won't get hurt anymore. I give it a bit of time as more often than not, an injured bird or animal is more stunned than hurt. If they seem to be fluttering around, I remove the basket. If they still need a bit of time, I try to move it to a location that is secluded. If it still doesn't do well, I would call a rehabber. However, I haven't had to do that yet. All the ones I've had were just in shock.

You're a hero! Thank you for caring enough & taking the time to do this.

Aww how nice @ZandraJoi

I am a city boy so I don't come across any injured animals.

One time I found a dead cat in my backyard though (at an old place). The smell was horrible! It had been there for a while because none of us had gone back there for at least a couple weeks.

Thank you for saying that :)

Thank you! I've always grown up in the country so having critters is just the norm.

I prefer inviting the vet doctor to come have a look instead of having to take care of it myself. It will mean paying but as long as it is an animal that I like, why won't I?

This is so good, IMO ; but I think she is talking about injured WILD animals....in particular birds. My guess!! :)

Because you don't have the money? I wonder if certain vets out there will take in injured wildlife "donations" ?

I know of "rescue" groups/orgs that will take care of injured raptors, & I think our state wildlife dept. will deal with large wild animals; but not real sure about "tweety birds".
