Feeding.....?

I feed the dog twice a day; noon and evening. At noon she gets her "fun bowl".....yummy tidbits scattered around in a 'slow-down' bowl.

My husband calls this the torture bowl; naturally I disagree.
In the evening I mix something meaty, usually leftover meat or sometimes a few spoonfulls of meaty canned dogfood with her portion of kibble.

The cats have free-choice dry cat food + a ration of canned food in the evening.

Your dog doesn't flip the bowl over and dump the food out?

She never has.....it's kind of a flattish design, so maybe that's the secret? I know a guy who uses one just like this for his German Shepherd, he says it works real good for slowing his dog down & has never mentioned the bowl tipping over. :dontknow:

Trapper's 'main' bowl is like this:

& she's never tipped that over either.

If I was a dog, I'd figure out a way to tip it over :evillaugh:

I have two cats and right now I'm feeding them Orijen cat food. They get fed about 2-3 times a day. Once when I wake up at around 6 am to get ready for work, then when I get home around 3:50-4:00 PM. Then again before bed so around 9:30-10:00 PM...and it starts all over again.

She's definitely smarter than her keepers, but maybe that's one area where humans have an edge.

Do you stick to that schedule on the weekends?

When i had both cats because my older cat was eating very little at that time, and was sick for many years she had few bites each time , and was asking always for food....
so i was putting wet food every time she asked and this was more then 7 times a day as she was having very little and i could not put a lot of this as was going off quick or got dry
she was underweight too and she loved more the wet food ... but there was always there 24/7 dry food ....

Now that i have one cat left and after so many years i didn't change the way i give food .... i still have dry cat food on the bowl all the time but i only give wet food once a day in the evening that's the only part changed

That is exactly the pattern that I feed mine in; with the exception that I'll normally give mine a highly limited "dose" of little treats (Temptations)
.... 5 each.

It's so sad watching the old ones 'go'; their organs are gradually shutting down & failing. :(

We feed out dogs twice a day, but they get a good amount of snacks and table scraps in between.

We feed our dog twice a day; I try really, really hard to cut back on the snacks; but whenever she goes out to pee or poop she has to get 2 treats when she gets back to the house.
