Have you ever worked on multiple forums as a moderator or admin?

Have you ever come across someone who said you cannot be staff on other forums? You have to focus all your attention on their forum? If you haven't seen that, how would you react if someone tried to impose those limitations on you?

I was a mod on a *HUGE* international forum and have had 2 of my own forums. The admin on the big forum knew about my 1st forum and was cool about it. By the time I had my 2nd forum I had already quit as a mod.

I'd obviously just do what I FEEL I wanna do.

I've had people that don't like when you're staff on a similar forum, but ultimately the forum world needs collaborative cooperation, we all work together for the greater good of the forum community as a whole. So go ahead and be staff anywhere you want to be!
Yes, same. I'd not get demoted, but they'd not like the idea of it. I will staff on whatever forum I want to.

I've never had this happen to me before. If it was to happen, I'd probably just end up leaving the community and they can demote me. I feel that it's controlling forcing your staff to only be staff on your forum, and I wouldn't want to work with someone like that. In this day and age, all of us forum users need to unite and help each other out. We know that forums aren't as popular as they once were, and it's up to us to keep them alive. :)

Just as everyone else has alluded to: we can do whatever we want, staff at whatever forum we want, staff as many forums as we want. Control freak admins can kick rocks.

That being said being staff at a multiple of forums is not for me personally. I take staff roles seriously so I feel like I wouldn't be the best I could be if I spread myself too thin.

If your site offers a service, you probably wouldn't want staff that is also staff on your competitor's site.

I don't mind staffers working on and owning other sites, but there is a point where it gets to be too much for that staffer. If I have it in my mod protocol guidelines that staff should be logging in and posting on the site at least every few days, then I expect that to happen. Not once every couple of weeks because he or she is too busy on other sites.

I think you'd make a great administrator. You have the temperament for it. You're kind, patient, tolerant, and understanding. Was it a bad experience?

Thank you.

The first time was a long time ago on a BBS far far away, another time was on an online forum.... which, now, was also a long time ago, and far away.

Let me put it this way. The first was a lot of work, and having to actually "do stuff" when online made it so that it wasn't fun any more.

The second time degenerated into cliques and the admin's favorites and who was allowed to do whatever and who wasn't. Once that started, I resigned as a moderator, and even began to contribute less content, and then, before too long, the board went dark.

So. All things being equal: I'd rather go to the dentist than be a 'mod' on a board again.
