Would you like to work the night shift, day shift or afternoon shift? Why?

What shift do you currently work?

I used to work an afternoon shift at my old job (2pm-10pm) and it was cool for being able to stay up late and sleep in late but I also had no life, missed out on all my daughter's school events and whatnot. Missed out on lots of stuff. I liked that shift because I was the most well rested.

Now I work mornings and I am lucky if I get 5 or 6 hours of sleep. I am home by 3pm so thats nice. I am always able to attend any event, dinner out, etc. Better for my social life and for my relationship.

I always enjoyed third shift, going in somewhere between 10 PM and 4 AM.

I don't mind going to bed early, and then getting up and going in at Oh Dark Thirty.

This sign was probably made with some of my coworkers at the one factory in mind:

I didn't stay there long. It was too far to drive for the pay.

There were never any serious bosses around, the banks and post office and other things were open when I got off, and "after school" stuff was possible.

My last full time job I went in at 5 Am and by the time the fancy title people were showing up, I was ready to leave.

I used to work 11pm - 8 am for a few years at an old job. It was the worst. Also my baby mama was cheating on me while I was at work in the middle of the night (found that out later).

I worked late nights, even the grave yard shift, at Wal-Mart when I worked there as a janitor.

The job I have now is daytime hours 8AM to 5PM.

I used to work night shifts when I first started at McDonalds. Now I work mornings. I open now. Usually 5:30 am - 1:30 pm. I prefer mornings mostly since I get off earlier.

Those are good hours!

I have worked 10pm-7am for about seven years now. I survive it. I don't know what it will be like when I have a child and have to make sense of it all.

Day. I've done early morning, normal work hours, closing, and overnight shifts. It's easier to manage a day shift and keep a schedule for me.

I don't think I could ever work night shift since I doubt I'd be able to sleep during the day. At my work, night shift starts at 8:00 PM so it's gotta be nice not to have to deal with rush hour traffic! Though you'd run into traffic on your way home with everyone else going to work. :V I hated working afternoon shifts when I worked in retail, I felt like my whole day would be ruined since I would be anxious about going to work in the afternoon and then getting off late at night. Morning is perfect for me, you get up early and get the day over with and get home when the sun is still out. Well at least during the warmer parts of the year.

I don't mind morning, mids, afternoons, or nights. I've work/worked them all. I despise overnights with a passion. Luckily I don't have to do those anymore but yeah aside from the overnights I have no issues with other shifts.

I did graveyard for a couple years ago when I worked retail back in the day. I didn't mind it, but I was a teenager / in my early 20's and more resilient. Now I couldn't hang.

I think that on graveyard shift I had the most fun; no "upper echelon" folks around; but, that did not seem to interfere with productivity. Just a relaxed attitude all around. My best shifts were the afternoon - evening shifts; swing & graveyard.
The absolute worst was a rotating shift....... day/swing/graveyard :7 days on each. Could never get the 'body clock' adjusted.

I hated it because it was a big building so they would cut off the air conditioner at closing. Louisiana is already hot. Plus, I just preferred to be sleeping around that time.
