How do you feel when your important staff resign?

In work, there's always a time for hiring a staff, suspending, sacking, resignation and retirement for a staff. It's very important to have a way to manage each situation so it doesn't affect your business structure.

In a situation where your most important staff sends in his or her resignation letter, how does that affect your business and make you feel generally?

The only essential worker that my boss has is me. If I were to move on he'd be up the creek without a paddle. (true story) But he is very clever, he has developed a strategy that inspires loyalty in his employees.

If you really enjoyed working with a particular staff member, it's really hard to see them go. I've seen a few go in my time and it's always a little sad.

Staff will resign for many reasons and it is always a shame to lose important staff members and a big part of the forum or site they were hired.

As much as it's sad to see them go, there is not too much you can do other than let them go, I won't deny that it is upsetting when you lose them.

Sometimes it can be devastating for a forum. Key staff members can be the life-blood of an entire community. They are always there to keep people chatting, keep new content coming, keep things in order, etc, etc.

In some cases losing a key member of staff can kill of a forum, so often when someone steps away I feel sad to lose them, but thankful for all they've given to the site. I also hope one day they'll return

I've seen that happen a few times. I suppose its a lot of pressure being the sole person keeping a forum afloat. I think we all want to establish communities strong enough to where there is a big enough group to keep conversations going and everything doesn't revolve around one person's activity level.

Absolutely! Sometimes, though, there is that one person, that cult of personality type of person that draws people in and makes the forum "work." The linchpin. The forum clicks, everything works, and it seems like all is well, but if you lose that linchpin, things can come off the rails in an instant. Fortunately for OT, YOU'RE that linchpin, Nebby, you draw people in and make OT work.
