Do you budget for vacations?

I don't, I just always have some money set aside in case I need it for anything.

I suppose this is included, but it's probably at the bottom of the list.

We are pretty secure financially so tend to just decide we want to go somewhere and then start costing it out. We usually have a way to pay for it, just need to make sure the money is in the right account at the right time (i.e. when the credit card bill comes in).

So when we start planning depends more on what we want to do. Cruises often book up months or years ahead so we need to give them more time whereas popping off for a driving trip to a domestic location, as we did a couple years ago, can be done with a few weeks notice.

I'm a pretty frugal person anyway, so no. I find it quite easy to make split decisions on what I should and shouldn't be doing with my money. I end up spending less than many people.

I can't afford to, but the one time I took a trip, I had it planned to the nearest dollar, so yeah, I prefer to budget.

When you're planning on taking a vacation. How far out in advance do you start budgeting for it?
Hmm great question! And honestly it depends on how expensive the vacation is. If it is just a quick vacation, like I took vacation off to go visit my family (who live about 6 hours away) then I don't really need to budget too far in advance. If it were a vacation like a destination vacation than I would probably start saving more about a year before the vacation. That way if I want to go shopping or get something that isn't included in the vacation package I don't feel as bad spending the money.

I also do the same, I like to have money set aside for in case I need anything. I also do like to have an account for vacations as well though.

Pretty cool! Sounds like you've been on vacation a lot. Where was your favourite place to vacation?

That is a good way to be! It's good to have money when you need it then to spend money and then have nothing when you need it.

Wow! That's amazing budgeting skills! I mean I budget too but usually when I'm on vacation I don't budget as much (unless I'm going with a very limited amount). Good for you though for being great at budgeting. I always find as much as I budget I always find something else that I forgot to budget or didn't think of.

I always leave a discretionary fund, lol, but I try not to touch it so I cheat my way into saving money
